Can anyone tell me (F4)

I was wondering something about my F4 (which I really like by the way), there are 2 modes discriminate & all metal discriminate. Can anyone tell me what exactly does all metal discriminate mean. Thanks! Steve.

P.S. I just got back from a friend's place that lost a heavy cast iron part off his backhoe. He had a good idea where it was, I put my F4 in all metal discriminate mode. It took awhile but I found it - I thought that my F4 would scream out when it went over the part but it didn't. It was just a regualr beep beep. So I am thinking in all metal discriminate mode that some iron is discriminated out???

Hi...According to the manual (I believe) the all metal does not discriminate. I know the display shows "ALL METAL" and "DISCRIMINATE" but I think it's a display error.

I have to try to experiment more and until then I hope we hear from some longer term users.

I too really like my F4 but feel pressured by my 1 hour hunting limit to experiment rather than hunt. I keep the machine in discriminate, 2 marks only and then switch to non discriminate to hunt around a hotter site. As I mentioned before I am picking up MORE jewelery (altho mostly cheap stuff) than my 3300.

When it cools off I will try it out in my backyard.

I believe the all metal discriminate mode means that the machine will detect all metals but still give the correct tones and numeric id for each target. This is a great feature, lacking on some detectors .

Doe the mode your in effect the depth? I understand that with machines like the 1500 and 2500 your depth is hammpered by the mode your in Is this also true of the F4?
Charlie

Hi Charlie, I haven't noticed any difference in depth in either mode. I almost always use discriminate mode. I find the F4 can go 6-8 inches with no problem. Steve.
