Found this at a sight that dates back to the 1830s

Howdy Low-Boy--

Neat find! You have a New York Lancers Button. It's a one-piece convex button made by Young Smith & Co in N.Y. The Lancers were a cavalry company under command of Capt. Bernard Reilly in the 1850's.
Great find!

Hi Low Boy
I found same button at construction site in Salt Lake City, Utah. City was founded in 1847. It could have been from early settlers hear. Good to see someone beside me has one. E&W magazine "ask Mark Parker" said it was "Lancers". Now
who really knows? Now there is two people who need help. Thank you; Slowmotion

Mark Parker got his info from the book which is wrong.Google search "New York Legion".Your button is from that regiment, there is even an exact picture of the button at the site!!!New York Volunteers. Its a shame so many people have that button and refuse to learn the facts!!!!!
