Can anyone share any tips for a 6000 pro xl for relic hunting? :help: I'm fixin' to get me one with the tone switch mod in a week or two and all help

Search on XL Pro or Pro XL in this forum over the last year. Lots of good information.

Down load a manual from the White's web page. Set things up per the manual. I'd recommend ground balancing at least twice when you do and then locking it. Check it every now and then.

For relic hunting run minimal discrimination like you would with any other detector going after relics. If you run any iron discrimination, this detector tells you loud and clear if the target is iron. If it's discriminated out but it's big enough that the detector needs to react; it throws the meter full scale, then it's return when you pull the pinpoint or hit another target to read. It a pretty sure iron give away. Slow the sweep down at the edge to see if you can unmask anything non-iron or just dig and see what the iron is.

There are a couple of good discussions by Monte and Crazyman about getting the Sig Bal set up optimized (and probably by others ... no intent to offend by omission). Those posts are good reads and good to re-read after you play some.

I can't discuss the tone option, I don't have that one.

OK I'll edit to say that the audio qualities on the standard tone XL Pro tell you a bottle cap is a bottle cap better than anything else I've used. A bottle cap, unless crushed very flat will screech the tone all over the place.

I dont have the tone mod on my Pro, started several times to order one but didnt. That tone of the Pro has a language of its on, unless its a real deepie amongst some trash/iron. While I am not a relic hunter per se, I do find interesting things as most of the places I hunt are old home/farm sites. The round concentric coils definetly help with those bottle caps though I do get fooled at times by the aluminum ones.
The Pro, in the GEB Disc mode requires a bit faster sweep to get deeper plus in this mode, it is a slower responder to targets which makes it difficult in very trashy spots. BUT, in the GEB SAT mode ( which is all metal mode, however it does require coil movement unlike a true no motion all metal mode) and with the small 5.3 coil, you can work a pretty nasty spot because you can slow your sweep speed down being able to work targets close together. I bet with that tone mod you have that would be an enhancement worth having. I work in both modes but primarily use the GEB SAT in my sites with a lot of iron. Ive used it so much, I can tell when its a coin or token a lot of times; just has that smooth round sound. But I also have to tell you, Ive done pretty well with the 9.5 concentric in trash as long as I stay in the GEB SAT mode. Ive used the TR mode at times, in these iron sites, just experimenting and have found targets, however I dont believe it gets as deep. Dont be afraid to crank the sensitivity up especially on a deeper iffy, itll surprise you. Funny, I have a M6 also and would think with its fast response time and being able to sweep slowly I would use it more in these places. And I have used it but the XL Pro just seems to excel for me for some reason, I guess its just what you have confidence using.
Well, Im no way an expert difinetly not technical, lol. I hope you like your Pro, it will serve you well in what area of use you intend it for.
Please , once you become acquainted and confident with it, let us know how the tones work out for you.
HH,
John
