I found this today with my son in about 6 inches of fairly thick clay. It was bent in every possible way it could be. I cleaned it up as best I could and polished it with a gold polish cloth (don't mean to presume it's gold, just used it because of the color). It has a halmark/jeweler's stamp on it that says "West" above the slot and "Germany" below the slot.

Any help would be extremely helpful.

Cheers!

Ken

Well, after looking at the picture of the ornament (and I found this piece under a giant evergreen...so go figure) I realized that I should not have bent the ends out like a star. Although the ornament does have the star type pieces on it, the one I have is clearly the top, which should be in a circle shape, so as to fit the top of the ornament. By God's grace alone I was able to slowly, methodically...oh...and carefully bend them back down into their proper position. The piece will now fit on a glass Christmas ball ornament (checked it with a generic glass ball).

The size however, when the ends were fully extended, was the same as the ones fashioned to the outside of the ornament; just under the size of a Kennedy Half Dollar.

Looking back, that was a considerably long winded post just to tell you the size... ;)

Blessings.

I'm very sorry. I forgot to add that someone on another metal detecting site ID'd it for me. It's to the top of christmas ornaments made in West Germany. Here are two pictures. They certainly catch the eye.

Blessings.
