I have dug some several of these in various sizes. I remember reading something about them but I just can not remember what. If anyone can tell me if they are Civil War related and anything else I would appreciate it. I found them in a civil war camp where I have dug Minis, round balls and some colt pistol bullets and etc. Look closely there is a "U" in the center of the casings and they are rim fire.

The headstamps are from the Union Metallic Cartridge Company (later after the CW, it was the Remington Arms Co.). Union was in business from 1863 to 1912. BUT headstamps of this maker were not made during the Civil War.

Hope this helps.
