I own an at pro and love it but know someone selling an etrac. Does anyone use both the etrac and at pro? Is it worth buying an etrac? Are there any real advantages over the at pro? Not looking to start a war just curious before i spend the monet. Thanks in advance.

I run both and I'd hate to part with either of them. They serve different purposes for me. Just today I spent half the day wading in salt water with the AT-Pro pulling clad and sinkers. Then I hit the beach with the Etrac and pulled a little more change and a beaut of a ring.

I guess it would depend on what and where you hunt. If I was just hunting old silver coins I'd want the Etrac. If I was hitting Totlots and modern parks I'd want the AT-Pro. If I was doing any hunting in rain or wading I'd want the AT-Pro. For relics both are pretty good but the Etrac will run deeper and deal with trash better but a lot slower. With a small coil it's excellent.

The ID on deep targets is better on the Etrac and it does, usually, run a little deeper once you learn the machine and run in manual sensitivity.

They are both really good but do different jobs better for me. That's why I keep them both!

Now I've probably really muddied the waters for you!

Thanks sailorman i hunt alot of farm and hay fields in ma. Ive found a bunch of large cents and indian heads but just a few silvers. I was thinking that they were there but the pro just wasnt hitting them.

I am in the same boat. I have been looking to upgrade also from the AT Pro. I can't decide on which to upgrade to. The E trac, XP Deus, and the CTX 3030. The cost of Etrac make it appealing. The XP deus seems like it would be easier to learn than both of the minelab machines. The CTX 3030 is probably the best on the market but, the cost kind of scares me. I would hate to have buyers remorse on such a big purchase. If for some reason I struggle to learn how to use that machine to its full potential. I can afford any of the 3 machines but I also don't have unlimited funds at my disposal. If so I would buy all 3 and figure it out. I really like the AT Pro has been a great machine to learn to use.

Are you hunting in heavy trash? If you are then the 5x8 coil might help. In hunts like that the only big difference I see is that the Etrac with a small coil is a little better at seperation. There is a depth difference as well with the Etrac getting a few more inches in good conditions. I just started using an Ultimate 13 coil and it might be just a bit deeper yet due to it's sensitivity.

The Deus is supposed to be excellent in trash but not as deep. The CTX is pretty good but out of my financial league!

I use the 5 x 8 most of the time. My biggest concern is with depth. I feel like the AT Pro gets pretty good target seperation with the smaller coil. How much more depth do people get with the other 3 machines (e trac, xp deus, ctx 3030)? I don't think I have dug a coin over 6 inches deep. It could be there is no targets down there but, i feel like there could or should be more there.

General consensus I've heard, but cannot say from personal experience, is the Deus isn't particularly deep but excellent in separation. The Etrac with the Ultimate coil has gone to 9" on a copper coin for me. The CTX is similar on depth from what I've seen. I've gone 11" on a lead sinker with my AT-Pro but on coins maybe 7".

I once dug a matchbox monster truck on the beach with my Etrac at a measured (with witnesses) 18"!

Those old fishing sinkers sound good when they hit. I have been hunting around a couple of old pay lakes. They are infested with old pop tabs, sinkers, sardine containers ect... i have found some silver coins most have been around 4 inches. The house on the property was built in 1860. I have been finding wheat pennies from the 1930s. I haven't found any silver older than 1942. I am thinking it may just be deeper.

Sometimes I wonder how important depth is for finding silver coins. Most of the silver coins I've found this year were between 2 and 4" deep with none deeper than 5". Yet in my bad ground my detectors will hit on coins half again that deep or slightly more which makes me wonder if it is really necessary to up-grade to something such as an Etrac other than possibly for its separation abilities. If your silver is found mostly at the depth mine seems to be, then the AT-Pro might just be plenty good enough for your needs..
