Can Anyone Help? Question about Conduct & Ferrous

1) I like to coin hunt mainly and not much into relics. Would I be better off putting my machine in ferrous instead of conduct? Yes or No and could you explain why or why not?
2) Whats the advantages and disadvantages of Conduct and ferrous?
Thanks for anyone's help here I was reading my Book on Mastering the Minelab Explorer and andy talks about this and I got to thinking that maybe if i had put it in ferrous that the nails would not have a high pitched sound like silver. Well any help would be greatly appreciated Mike

I generally use ferrous mode in places with lots of iron junk, or when I am trying to pick off the low conductive smaller targets at a pounded site. If the sites fairly clean of iron and or high in non ferrous trash I prefer conductive for coin hunting

This stems from another post but it was called the 3 c's In Conduct Mode!, have you ever noticed that in digital mode that when ever you pass a silver coin in front of the coil that it will read anywere from 28-30 more often than not along with showing the pictures of money and jewelery! And when you pass any Iron in front of it, It will show like 30 but no pictures or any sort!!!!

Mike,
I like the smart screen myself, but have tried digital as recomended by one of my hunting partners. He was telling me too if you see a 30 with a coin icon it is one you want to dig, but if there is no coin icon it is trash even though it has the right number.
One of the things I have notice in ferrous is some coins next to iron will give the low iron tone on a few of the swings of the coil, so you may have to be a little more careful. Also now all the items on the right hand side of the screen will give you a high tone like the old rusty bottle caps, but they show on the bottom right on the screen.

Any chance that you could archive some of the posts that deal with commonly asked questions? Manual/Auto, headphone jack, ferrous/conductive come up quite frequently and have been answered intelligently many times before.
Looking through the old posts is not real easy. Would it be possible to set up another page as FAQs about the explorer?
Thanks
Chris

Is when I'm trying to sort out whether or not I've found a Nickel. Other than that I don't use it. 1 to 32 is MUCH too coarse of a signal range. I'd like it better if it was -95 to +95 or finer.
