It's a pretty nice water machine. Very sensitive to to small targets. The 9 volt batteries last a long time. The depth id moderate....Has one tone. You can control the sensitivity and discrimination. As with most single frequency detectors, it works best in fresh water and struggles a bit with salt water. Parts are no more available for the electronics or the coil.

nearly made the mistake of biding on one on fee-bay,no parts ,no salt water -------not for me:heh:thanks bunches----------------BILL.

Hi
Just a point with the Beach Hunter, I bought on of these (AT3) and there is a small slide switch on the circuit board to set depending if you are searching on saltwater beaches or fresh water, also another advantage is they are water proof to 6 feet, so no worries about dropping it in shallow water.
I'm still getting used to it but worked a treat in the salt water & on the beach that had some black sand in it, I have asked Garrett about this switch but as yet haven't had a reply
