Can anybody tell me what this star is?

I found this a few years ago. It is made out of brass and is about 1/4 inch thick. The back is the same as the front except their is no numbers or letters punched in it. Thank you.

ever do any 'tectin in Claridge ?
 
Thats a tough one ...maybe a type of knob/machine handle that was to be drilled and tapped in the center? Because of the stamped markings maybe it was a pattern piece for casting a knob/handle?:shrug:

I have seen paperweights that were star shaped and polished brass but the markings make it even harder to guess
 
Is there a hole in between any of the arms, where a rod would of gone into it?
 
No holes in it at all. It does look like it was ground down to make the shape. Maybe somebody was bored and made it? Looks like they put a lot work into it.
