Can any Minelab dealers chime in here?

Neil

Well-known member
Maybe clear up this issue of whether or not minelab will service their olders units? The first memo I read awhile back stated they would not service the original sov or the XS model and the first explorer. Then another memo came out and said they would if they had the parts, that parts were limited to the earliest units.

So which is it?

Neil you might want to call customer repair. # 1-877-767-6522 My understanding is that if they have the parts they will service your unit. Give ML a call then you will know for sure. HH :minelab:

looking on their website the orginal sov is "obsolete" among many others. :( I would still give them a call or drop them an e-mail

Obsolete
Minelab aims to service all of our older products for as long as possible. Unfortunately with some of these older detectors it becomes impossible to source the parts required for service work and so the detectors become obsolete. As detectors become obsolete they will be listed on this page for your reference.

I bought a used Sov XS that had a problem. I sent ML an email to see if they would fix it.
Reply: we no longer service this unit.

You can get V-clips and outside stuff from the dealers but I don't think you can get anything inside the box.

Hope you find out I'm wrong.

Since no one wants to muddy the waters I will...

Minelab is taking older detectors in for repair and if cannot be repaired they are giving a rebate(coupon) for the purchase of a new replacement.

So, To make a long story short. And I have heard this from customers.

Minelab contacted them, offered them a rebate to purchase the most current model.

Now, If I had the money for the newest Model why would I have sent in my older model to get fixed.........

Just my opinion....

Joe first thanks much for the reply.

Its good to know they are trying to fix what they can, with what parts they have available.

As far as the rebate goes, is it correct to say they are trying to help someone into a new sov if the old one cant be fixed? Maybe the rebate is enough to help someone enough to afford one, they arent cheap. Any idea what kind of money minelab is offering on the rebate?

The rebate is 15% off of new unit. The rebate has been a good incentive for the customer to move into a newer detector.

Why:
Keep in mind that as things change it is even more difficult to repair older detectors especially when using original parts.
Design changes......In most case's for the better. Smaller electronic components, faster CPU's. and the like.

Question to ask yourself.....
What is a repair going to cost? Is the repair going to cost as much as the advantage of replacement......Warranty, design changes...Ect.

This has been a good program for some.....But you have to weigh the Pro's vs Con's and judge for yourself.
