Can an overload/reduce gain signal damage a detector?

I guess it could eventually blow your speaker if not using headphones.

I checked a friends 6000D rechargeable battery in my 5 supreme once.It screamed like a stuck pig and never worked right again.true story <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry">
 
I take it you ran the detector over his battery. What kind of symptoms did your detector display after this happened?
 
No Jason we were young and dumb I put the battery in my 5 sup.I will never do that again. <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">
