This is the Parade Grounds that leads to the beach and small boat marina:

Here is a part of the lake and beach:

Had considered wearing waders but figured I could get out farther in the water and had to haul the gear about a quarter mile to get there so wasn't inclinded to carry or wear the heavy and bulky waders:

I was right about getting out further:

It also was a blessing of sorts as though I love kids who are interested in the hobby of detecting but I don't like 'grabby' kids who try to take the detector out of my hands without asking - just grabbing.

The little guy asked what I found and mentioned a 'couple of quarters' and he asked "Can I have them?" (Don't think so  )

Sherry had a great time watching a couple of the Boy Scouts who were the life guards on the beach making sand castles then trying to topple each other's castle by lobbing rocks and stones. Kinda like catapults and old England. She didn't like the music they were listening to - totally inappropriate in any place where others are present and as you see others were present. Pornographic vulgar music - not suitable for a Boy Scout camp!

Here's the finds which included the 1951 Wheat penny. As you see lots of iron and steel - I made the place better by removing this as some nails and screws are very dangerous in a swimming area.

Had to laugh that I thought the place was smaller than I remember. Ever had that feeling when someplace as a kid then go back later to find it seems smaller? It didn't change. More buildings but the lake was the same.

Hoping to make it back there - maybe in the spring. Maybe teach a group of Scouts on metal detecting if I am available and there is an interest shown by the camp management.

Remember: Always leave a place better than you found it. In this case it is better and safer.

others want the coins you find!! Just like in the real world...some give and some take...comes with the territory! But praise God most are nice kids and just curious about what you're doing and finding! :)

God Bless!
Betty

Neat post - a nice beach area - we have zero of them. When kids ask for my coins I say no, but you can give me some. They say why ? - and I say my thoughts exactly :) Steve in so az
