Camp Gives Up Amazing Token

Hi, All:

Got permission to hunt a camp I researched and located a couple of months ago. It's a camp that has been heavily hunted, but it's only nine miles from home, so I gave it a shot. Did recover some nice pieces, although no larger bullets. Only several shot pistol bullets. Did find a nice complete General Service button and a button back. Several harmonica reed pieces, a shot Henry cartridge and a nice brass reins holder. But the best and highly unusual item was a George McClellan for President token. At first I thought it was a large cent. But after cleaning it up I found it was larger than a large cent. The back is totally corroded to the point no detail was apparent. The front was hard to determine until I used a brass brush to clean it up. Finally was able to see the bust of an image facing left and some letters around the bust. After much brushing and looking with a magnifying glass was able to make out letters. Enough letters to determine what it was. The date is only half visible and not all the letters are visible. A Google search showed many varieties of McClellan Presidential tokens were made. Hard to imagine how one of these got so far away from the East to Missouri. You never know what you will find. And, no camp is totally hunted out, no matter how hard it's been hunted. Was using my new (to me) Fisher F75 detector.

Thanks for lookin' and keep on diggin'

Jim, nice finds. Looks like the previous hunters left mostly small targets. Hopefully one of them will be a $1 gold piece or other period coins. Mark
