Camera shopping!!

I am looking at prosummer level cameras. I have an Olympus D-500L at present and though it takes excellent pictures I am constantly frusterated by its slow operation. I miss far to many shots because the camera refuses to shoot when I want it to because of waiting to focas or it doesn't have enough light and won't take a picture without the flash.
I was considering the Olympus E-10 or E-20 but after reading the reviews they complained about slow performance also. I have read that the Sony DSC-707 is a better choice. Can you give me some input. I'm having problems with the looks of the Sony.

In addition to regular scenery stuff my wife is very heavy into dog shows and I do a lot of pictures of the dogs both closeup and in the ring. As you probably know when taking pictures of animals and kids you had better have your finger on the button at the right time or else! Also the great shot is always about 2 seconds after the one you took. I do alot of the shots indoors in well lit buildings and the D-500 still wants the flash (slow lens I guess). Also there is a delay waiting for the auto focas that is a problem.
