Camera Question..........

I'm looking at a Panasonic DMC-FP8K at Costco for $179. To be used on detecting outings and for photoing finds. Anyone out there have a feel for this camera????? Any data appreciated. Thanks, Ron.

It looks like a nice camera. You might want to consider a camera that is waterproof/dustproof. Especially if you are carrying it in the field.

That's a nice camera, but I want at least 5X optical zoom. All my "big honker" digital and 35mm units have 10x or more which I use a lot. I'd like at least 5X. Is that a pic of you, cupajo?

I have an Olympus Stylus 790SW. It's an older model 7.1 megapixel. It is only 3x optical. I bought it to carry with me at all times. It is water/shock/freeze/dustproof. I paid about $200.00 for it 3 or 4 years ago.
I just checked online and new ones are selling for $250.00 and up.
To be honest I very seldom use the zoom. If I shoot a relic I use macro mode then crop it on my computer.

You might check this auction out.

Hi fyrffytr1 . Do you find 7.1 adequate for most normal and macro applications? Does the unit have place to affix a kneck lanyard?

The pic on my reply?

Yep, that's me (unless you work for the IRS!)

The little Fuji has digital zoom and macro freatures and takes fine shots.

At 10M it has plenty of resolution for cropping and enlarging when using an editing program.

Any critical shots should be done on a tripod though, as few prople can hold steady enough for total control of movement.

Regards,

CJ

Well, well, I wish to thank everyone who responded to my inquiry. After the smoke all cleared, I wound up buying a Pentax WS80. I just have to have the 5X for scenics. I do lots of scenery stuff and use the better ones on my computer for Wallpaper. I really wanted the W80 but it isn't water proof. Hopefully it will work out Ok. Time will tell. Again Thank You. Good detecting in 2010...............
