Camcorder still question

Rick, or anyone else that may have used some of the newer camcorders that store stills on removable media: have you found that you can get just as nice pics as the average good digital camera in this way? I've been considering a nice DV camcorder that stores stills on smartmedia cards..those are a bit harder to find, as more camcorders seem to use either mmc, or compact flash..and of course all the Sonys use memory stick.
My fear is this...is their some loss of clarity or quality when the still makes it onto the media?? I wouldn't think there would be, but something I read recently leads me to believe it's possible. Thanks for any info!

Andy,
I use a Sony Digital 8 Camcorder with a memory stick for the stills. Previously, I used a Sony Mavica digital camera which stored the pics on standard floppy disk. I can't see any difference between the two.
