well i followed everyones advice and modified the angle of the handle. i still need to brace the handle just have to get around to doing it. went to the park today after work and went to try it out. didnt find much, there where some people on the end of the tot lot i came there to hunt so i stayed on the other side, really dint feel like getting tazered:stars: or pepper sprayed:stretcher:

i ended up finding 61cents thats about it before i ran out of real estate to hunt. the scoop work well, i only had to go down like about 5" today.

I guess this is what you meant but if not- You might want to weld a triangular brace from the back on the scoop to the straight shaft. That way it wont stress when your digging.

long as that bucket part is u might get to make two digs before it breaks or bends

looks to me u still need to move the handle up some more

take a look around at what most people use, u saw the ones norman makes - handle is straighter - has brace - brace is important

lot of scoop makers for u to see how they build them - all sorts for u to look at and get ideas

good luck, keep us posted up on what u are doing

YIKES! i said in my post that i still need to put the brace on there! LOL it worked pretty good today. im just glad im not doing anything with wet sand or it would probly bend or break. considering i made it in about an hour with readily availible stuff laying around work and built for the grand total of free i think its a goos start. the aluminum welder at work took a crap so if i did make another scoop it would have to be stainless, or id have to outsource the welding portion of the build.

it is a lite duty scoop, im the first to admit it. im just starting out in this hobby and am trying not to jump into it head first. i have also always been a hands on guy that would rather build something than buy it. sometime in the future id like to own an excal and by then i could assure everyone that i would have a very respectable scoop.
