I have been Civil War Relic hunt in open fields in good ground. It shows 12.39 to 12.40 all the time it makes no sound but it shows up all the time even when you go over iron. You here the Iron low tone but it keeps showing 12.40 on the screen. It is like it is detecting the ground with no high Tones.

If you see my post; "trying to figure out what she's telling me" then you'll find I'm posting basically the same thing.

I get tones that hit iron with a 12:41 or something very close (identical to what you've pictured). Typically these are difficult to repeat and aren't good consistent signals. Last night I started digging those signals and every one of them was a nail, screw, or other iron junk. I'm not saying that will always be the case, but that is what experience is showing me right now.

Sounds like your using Ferrous/coin. It's a terrible program in my opinion.Every target looks good aka 12/42 - 12/43 etc.
I highly recommend using any other set up.Wife and I have really good success with running a full open screen and Low trash.Deep off,Fast off
Then just customize the bins to our liking.

Terrible program well that's all i use it's very easy to ignore falsies once you use it for a while targets don't repeat and are off center or # fluctuate to much as far as other programs i have no need for them where i hunt ferrous coin is my program and i'm sticking to it love it.

Have you dug any of those targets that show on the screen but no audio? I'm with sube ferrous coin works great in my ground. That is what is good about the CTX you can program whatever you like. And seems like everyone is finding things with their individual settings. Back to the question. I have dug some CW bullets that showed on the screen but with no audio until I removed some dirt. Never know unless you dig. HH :minelab:

It dose it all the time I just have to not look at the screen and listen to the sound. It is not a spot it is every where. I can hit the pinpoint button witch clears the screen but it just go back to 12.40

I am using Ferrous/coin that could be it that was the first time i used it. That could be it Thanks

No I have not tried another program and when I turned the sensitivity down it helps a little running +2 & +3 going to try something besides Ferrous/coin

I'm in Ferrous Coin as well (GH's settings) in +3 and +2. I'll try some additional settings. I haven't read much about this from other users until lately. I thought I was the only one that found this confusing. I feel a bit better knowing I'm not the only one.

still have not found time to find the page in the book that tells you that using this mode may not give an audible TID but the numbers will still show, not sure what mode it is but it's in the book,,,,,

when I am in Ferrous Coin. I think the minerals fool the machine into registering the cursor in the coin area. I can hunt all day in Ferrous coin and the cursor will hang out at 12 42 on almost every swing. I wish there were that many coins hiding but it just is not the case.

I switched to High Trash and the cursor disappears and when a target is present it is very accurate. You can still use Ferrous Coin but you need to let the audio tell you when you are over a target and the ID will lock onto that target.

I have found High Trash to be a very good setting for high minerals and I always manual ground balance.

Good luck and just play around with the settings. I personally feel that all the settings will hit on the same targets and give you a solid repeatable signal. The ID and jumpiness of the ID may vary slightly from setting to setting but you are not missing anything. (in my opinion)

page 48,,,,,

"The Ferrous-Coin setting may not
always provide audio."

I had this happen quite a bit and I was told it was "ground feedback." This means that the minerals in your ground are giving the detector some kind of feedback where that range is constantly "highlighted." I posted about this about 5 days after the CTX was released and my machine did this up until the day that I sold it last week when in ferrous-coin. It's nothing to worry about, and there's nothing wrong with your machine. It just seems that in certain grounds, the minerals cause this to happen. You might be better off with ground-coin when you see this going on. GL and happy hunting -Marc

What Marc said.... I hunt in FeCoin Combined and get that all the time. I just listen for the tones and dig the good ones. It does seem odd, but it is an easy work around. I hunt with open screen, and yesterday got tired of all the iron grunts so blocked the bottom two lines. It quieted the machine down and amazingly even when it was nulling over iron, it gave me a good high tone which turned out to be a 1916 Merc. After recovering the merc, I filled the hole in and recheck it and all that was there was the iron null. Not bad.

I will have to try the high trash trick to get rid of the false numbers. For me I like FECoin and will stick with it.
