Calling the Edge mid-line? As far as I'm concerned mine is called SEABISCUIT.

"Though he be but small, he is FIERCE!"
By what standard? Depth, I.D depth, separation finesse, auto ground balance, tones, notches, ability to work bad ground or wet salt, bottlecap reject or mineral free discrimination and sweep search speed?
I gave my nephew my Excel for X-mas. To him its the equal of a DFX, EXP-2, CZ and Treasure Baron all rolled into one. So what if he did not pay much attention to the manual, and had 8 coins, numerous cartridge cases, bullets, tabs, screwcaps, a railroad spike and a horseshoe for his first 2 hours of hunting. He's looking for Jean Lafitte's GOLD! But he did not start out with a closed mind, and is having the time of his life. You see, he has something sadly lacking in many of the various Forums posts, -HEART!
Many complain about "X features" or the lack thereof, and I'm as guilty as any-but if you had to hunt with an old VLF-TR, no notches, tones, TIDs, and losing 30% of your depth at pull-tab, you would not have lasted one day back in the 1970s.
Take the Edge, or Excel or Ace-250 back in time to 1975 and the least of them would have started at $3000 in 1970 DOLLARS! I gave an Ace-250 to my Doctor's twins who are seven-I thought he was going to cry because he thought it was for HIM!
Its just an attitude adjustment. If you don't believe me, give one of your "Tired & Old" detectors to a young kid, and just get out of the way, because not only will he knock you down ready to use it-he will probably embarrass you with some good finds, because he has not been taught-ITS NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
LES TEMPS BON TON ROULEZ ET BON CHANCE!

Thank you Vlad for this posting and this is the very thing I have been wondering about myself. If your heart and soul isn't in it then maybe it is time for a different hobby. I went to a Gem & Mineral show last year as a dealer in metal detectors which I still am. I was the only metal detector dealer there and I never got so sick and tired of old people walking up to me with there negative attitude and saying oh, metal detectors, been there and done that. I was so sad for them, it was like they not only quit detecting but had just about quit living. I never want to be like that and I will keep swinging as long as I can and I'm an MS patient but I ain't gonna let that stop me ! So good for you Vlad !

Hey there anonymous. YOU JUST MADE MY DAY. I'm a 75 year old kid living in Ontario Canada. I'm just re-entering this great hobby after a 25 year absense. I previously had a Fisher 1260 (wish I still had it) at any rate I'm now considering a 1270. Thanks for the inspiration, my wife thinks I'm nuts but hell, ya only live once.
