Hi Mr.Bill, I always enjoy reading your posts and admire your knowledge. Your posts are very informative and easy to understand. So I would like you to answer this question:
If you could only have one detector and had the choice of either the Fisher F4 or the Tesoro Vaquero which one would you choose & why. Thanks! Steve.

I would & have choose the F-4.

The Vaquero didn't hunt here for me very well. It's a nice detector, but just didn't cut it here in my area. I had a real tough time with it on the salt beach.

Just the contrary, the F4 handled the salt beach well in discriminate mode.

The F4 has to be one of the better buys out there right now. Purchasing a new one and it comes with a 11"X7" DD coil, 8" concentric coil, and a carry case.

For an additional charge of $39.95 you can get the 4" shooter coil. $59.95 gets you the 10" Magnum coil. Thats one hell of a deal. This would give you a coil for just about any need. Let me tell you, using the 4" with the sensitivity cranked up full, depth in a trashy school ground will surprise you.

Well between the two thats my choice, and it's what I'm using at the present time.

I live in Arizona where the ground is mineralized. I am hunting for relics and coins. I'd like to hunt for meteorites and maybe nuggets, but I probably need another detector for that. Also, which has better depth and better discrimination in sites with lots of nails, rusted iron and other trash? Thanks for the input. HH.

Thanks Mr.Bill! Steve.

P.S. What do you think of the White's Classic IDX Pro compared to the F4, I can find them on eBay usually pretty reasonable. I know you can mod them & get them cranked up a notch, but how are they without the mod. Thanks again! Steve.

?????

I haven't ever compared them to each other. It hadn't crossed my mind, sorry.

The F4, for the reasons I gave on the above post.

Another question that would almost be impossible for me to answer as I have never hunted with either of them in Arizona. Were back to that common mis-conception that because a detector works at one part of the country a certain way, it will do the same in a different part of the country. What works well for me in Cape Cod, MA may not do the same for you.

Depth is a product of how well a detector can operate in a certain ground matrix, and the one that can handle the ground matrix the best will be the deepest.

A unit that can handle the iron super, may not do so well with general trash. What your doing is lumping all the features one would like to have into one unit. There is no best all round unit that I know of.

If you want to hunt in Arizona, I would make my first requirement a unit that can handle the ground matrix where your going to hunt the most. All the other request will follow after you find that particular unit. It would be to your advantage to seek out a local dealer, and ask him to try out different models there.

Seeing this was tagged onto a F4 question, the F4 appears to do very well in the mineralization here in this part of the country. I suspect that outside some of the nasty gold field areas of Arizona, it should do a respectable job there.

Good luck on your quest.
