I played ball from t-ball, through college and then softball into my late thirties...umpired for ten years after that and I can honestly say when it comes time to telling on-the-field stories over a few cold ones the things I saw and was involved in while umpiring are much more numerous than when I actually played.
Did the dish one game and watched in awe as the defense got a runner in a rundown between the plate and the dugout. Plays like that stick in your memory forever.
