Calling all Lefties

I need to hear from all the MXT lefties. All of you know how aggrevating it is sometimes to have to use something engineered to be used right handed. I am almost certain that the MXT should be the next detector for me. I'm concerned that the knobs on the control pots will not be easily accessible from having to reach over and straight down with my right hand. I don't want that aggrevation to take away from what would otherwise be a very good choice in a detector. Going to a local dealer to see for myself is not an option as the "local dealer" is Hobbytown, doesn't have one, and strikes me as someone who would have a problem explaining how the two Prizms he has works.

Right handed, but find I use both on the mxt.
I carry with the right and adjust with the left.
You should not be disadvantaged, in my opinion.
Good luck!

I'm left handed and find no problem with the controls. The MXT is very stable and once set just "keep on detecting!" Might be one of the reasons we see so many "s" type rods on detectors these days.

have shifted to the left. It is a bit awkward, but made easier by the fact that I use an Industrial back support with suspenders and a ring attached to the waist band where I hook up a bungee cord to a ring in front of the meter stalk on the tubing/shaft. I love the ease of use with the bungee because when I go to dig, I can let go of the detector and it just hangs there ready to go when I am. I have posted a pic in the past & can do it again if interested.
HH- Gary (Oh yeah- you like the MXT!! <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin"> )

had my MXT since they came out, it is one of my favorite detectors. I don't have to adjust settings much while detecting and when I do it's no problem. The most frequently used feature is the pinpoint which is done with the toggle switch under the meter so you would use your left hand. You don't say what state you are from, perhaps there is someone near you that could let you see and try an MXT first. Your local White's dealer sounds similar to one near me, the owner doesn't even use a detector and knows little or nothing about them. BTW I live in east central Indiana.

I kind of agree with Bill. I often switch hands when detecting. I am 64 and sometimes one arm or the other just gets tired of swinging the detector.
Think of it this way. If you are left handed, swing the detector with your right hand. That allows you to do all the digging and manipulating with your favored left hand. The knobs are on the left side of the control box. It is actually easier to operate this way.
I recommend that whichever detector you have, switch hands periodically to relive any repetitive stresses that you may be subjecting your body to. Keeps you well balanced.
