Called Whites today and ordered a new S Shaft.

I contacted Whites today and talked about my S shaft breaking on my MXT. They had never heard of one breaking until now. All thought they were very sympathetic they did not offer to replace it, which is ok as it was way past its warranty. You all may want to check your S shaft and look for any signs of cracks. If they break you are done hunting for the day unless you have a backup detector or a spare S shaft. HH Dennis in Idaho

Thanks for the heads up Dennis. I'll check it out and see how mine looks. Lord knows it's one of the oldest MXT's out there. Whatever the cost may be, it's worth it in the end. HH to all, Nancy

How did the shaft look inside Dennis? Was it rusty? I checked mine and it looks good. It was probably a fluke which doesn't help when it happens to you. HH Rob

No corrosion at all. It is a very clean break. It just my kinda luck. HH Dennis in Idaho

I'm learning every day that in the grand scheme of things this was no big deal. You'll be up and running soon. Rob

I have seen a DFX break in the same spot as yours did. A member of our club snapped his on our hunt day! It broke because although he did not notice it he tended to lean on the shaft while scooping up targets at the beach, it weakened till it finally snapped:sad:. Also when you get up and down to dig you may have unintentionally used it like a cane so to speak. I have caught myself doing that several times (old bones sometimes need assistance). I hope You are up and running soon!

I don't think I have leaned on it in anyway, but I think I will watch how I get up and down in the future and see if I don't do it without noticing. I usually use my coinpopper to help me get up. Ya know its hell getting old. Maybe Whites should reinforce the whole shaft for old folk like some of us who need assistance getting up. HH Dennis in Idaho

Checked mine and it's ok. Been swinging it over 6 years now in all environments. Hopefully yours was an odd occurrence but everyone should inspect theirs in case there was a run of defective parts used.
