I called Tesoro about a couple weeks or so ago and was told the lower shaft was going to run $28 for the Stingray. Called this morning with my credit card in hand and was told they could not sell me the lower shaft.
Having just sold the other Stingray that works great, I was now thinking "Part is no longer available - tell me it isn't so, please".
Well seems my second call didn't go where I called the first time. The 2nd call was to the 'factory'. Hmmm...don't know who I talked to before or where. Ok reason he couldn't sell the part is because they make the detectors - they don't sell 'parts'. I was told though that if I had the serial number of my Stingray he could send me a 'warranty replacement' for free. COOL!
So out to the garage I go to get the serial number from the detector...and its not there where I think it should be. I call back and ask where the serial number is supposed to be and I was right where it was supposed to be it wasn't there any more. (Just a sticker with a number on a plate). From looking at the plate where the number was supposed to have been I am guessing there was a battery leakage at one time, it had been cleaned up and repainted with an off color paint and somewhere the label disappeared. Now thinking, "great now I have been able to see the proverbial carrot dangling from the string in front of me (a free lower shaft) and now I'm going to be told "can't help ya".
I was wonderfully surpised when the gentleman said "You have a need for service, we are here to provide service, we're supposed to ask for the serial number which I did and you looked for it and couldn't find it but you looked so will send out the part to you under warranty anyway." Just saved me $28. Thank you Lord and thank you Father. Bless that Tesoro gentleman. My hat is off to you guys (and gals) at Tesoro.
