California Gold Miners 2 piece belt buckle

I found this today and am really happy, but I really don't know what I have... I found a site that has a picture of the same buckle, but it doesn't give a price on it or anything ( http://www.relicman.com/fakes/zfakeFed338California2part.htm ) plus this is just a replica of it... I cant seem to find one on EBay or anywhere else for that matter... Anyone know anything about this buckle? I am missing the other piece to the 2 piece set, but it looks to be in pretty good shape for its age.

try not to be too concerned with the $$.. You have a wonderful relic of the mid 1800's. Try researching the area you located it a bit. If you are near a mining community try to locate some pictures of the mining crew. I am not much help in giving you an idea of what its worth but its a damn nice find! Some gold miners of that time period were known to have belt buckles with nuggets set in them :) Keep swinging and posting pictures of your finds!

Im new to the hobby and this forum and discovered that asking how much things are worth is the wrong question, when I got an ear full from some other posts I made... That being said, I appologize about that... I will look up the pictures and see if I can find anyone wearing this buckle, but I found a picture of a magazine with this buckle in it! It said that there are only 10 known to have been found! This is my first REAL find, and I am super excited about it... Thank you for any help

These were two part (tongue & wreath) buckles, what you found is the tongue part. You need to go back where you found it, grid it off and search slowly and see if you can find the wreath part. Even in dug condition, if it were complete, a collector would pay a good amount of money for it due to it's rarity.

Sounds pretty rare based on these postings:

Maybe this clean buckle gives you an idea of what the buckle looks like restored.
Great find, you have to try and find the other half! Congratulations!
