Every time you turn it on, and check it once in a while while detecting too....if you really feel the need to keep it right on the gnat's azz.

I let mine drift a little most of the time. If it starts running a number or two off, I usually don't worry about it.....just keep it in mind.

If I get 384 at turn on, or in all metal then I usually consider it close enough.
