Time to jump on the band wagon and talk. I have been reading the forum for about 3 weeks now, sounds like there is some great people here that don't mind sharing information and the fun they have MDing. I bought a QD2 about 2 months ago and have enjoyed it. It really is a thrill to not know what you'll fine next. By the way I'm from Louisiana and the temp. is 80 plus degrees, had to throw that in as I know a lot of you still have snow on the ground. Have found a lot of coins but only 1 silver 1959 dime, 1 earring(costume) and tons of junk. I have 1 ? my qd2 tells me that my hit is about 2-3 inches deeper than it really is even when trying different settings, any suggestions are welcome. Other than this I'm very pleased with the qd2.

hello beavertail, i'm glad you could join us! this is a great site with a lot of good and talented people. it sounds like your're sweeping a bit fast or holding your coil an inch or two above the ground [sweeping too high] or both. it just takes time and practice to get it down. after a while, it becomes second nature. congrats on the silver dime, that's a good little find. and don't forget to post your finds! hh,

"my qd2 tells me that my hit is about 2-3 inches deeper than it really is even when trying different settings, any suggestions are welcome."quote] You will always want to keep in mind that the depth of a target on your display is estimated from the coil to the target, not from the surface of the ground to the target. In other words, if a coin is 2 inches deep and the coil is 2 inches from the ground, the display will estimate the depth at 4 inches. Another good reason to keep the coil as level and close to the ground as possible. And, the depth on the display and the possible ID of the target is at best, an estimate. You've got to admit digging a solid target is fun no matter how deep it is. Enjoy the hunt.

Welcome Beavertail:

dirt jockey is correct, and it drove me nuts when I first started hunting...My display would read 4 inches, I would dig 4 inches, and find nothing in the hole...The coin would be just under the roots in the plug I dug....Took me about a month to realize I was swinging the coil 2 inches off the deck...and the coin was really 2 inches deep in the ground....:surrender:

Happy Hunting,
