I have a friend who recently purchased a few acres, and out by his barn he removed a large walnut tree so he could use the space for a garden. Well! During the past two growing seasons, he has found these three Silver Dollars around where the tree was! He doesn't want anyone to come in and metal detect! I believe he has a Cache of Silver and possibly some Gold!!! Every time I see him, I get a fever! LOL. I almost would go find them for him, just to get a picture of all that Hoard! Or, could there just be three? I can't believe there is only three!!! What are the odds? What would you do, would you find them for him, just to say you found a cache?

What would I do? I think I'd fall over dead from excitement if I ever found three silver dollars in the same location.

A friend you say? Absolutely, I would offer to go help search the area for whatever might be there. That's what friends do. One of the benefits of being a detectorist is being able to help others find lost items.

"What would you do?" What can you do? Speculate all you want, but "he doesn't want anyone to come in and and metal detect." so that's that. However, why doesn't he want you to find what could possibly be something more then the 3 pieces he has already found? A little quick research could easily reveal who the previous property owners were and keeping in mind that Peace dollars were minted starting in 1921 can help to narrow things down a little more. Yeah, it would be fun to help your friend find what could be a cache. HH jim tn

I would go find them for him, but he doesn't want anyone on there with a metal detector!!! I agree it would be super fun!!! Jim tn, I agree, why doesn't he want me to find them for him?

Hello timwied,

Interesting possibilities! Three eyeball silver dollar finds in a fairly concentrated area, is certainly not a common occurance.

Have you discussed your theory of a possible "cache" with him? It seems to me that if there is a reasonable possibility of a cache, he would want to know if one exists.

As to the "What would you do". Since "He doesn't want anyone to come in and metal detect!", that pretty much says it all. You can offer to look for him, but, it is what it is. His property, his choice. Perhaps he intends to search by himself someday, and keep what he finds (or doesn't) private?

Either way, it sure whould be a great place to detect!

I would do my best to find out what it would take to be able to detect that area. Maybe you could loan him a detector and introduce him to the hobby at that location? He may just fall in love with the hobby when he finds that cache of gold $20 Double Eagle's? lol:thumbup:
P.s. share with him the story of the Saddleridge hoard of gold coins and that might start the permission process?

Wanted to post a link to the Saddle Ridge Hoard because it was not really that far from me. These finds get our juices going!!

Thanks S.B.R I just got through looking at some re-runs of the Treasure Of Snake Island (The Trinity Treasure) or something like that! I'm a firm believer that there is still so much treasure/hoards out there to be found. If I had my time over again (yeah right)lol! I definitely would be a full time treasure hunter. I don't believe in reincarnation so that's not going to happen BUT I still have some great years in front of me so in the meantime.....you'll find me out there looking for it!!!.....Now where did I put my bottle of Geritol? lol!!

I talked to him again today, I think he's going to let me come detect, but he gets to keep it all! I'm excited to be a part of this! I told him I will help him become a millionaire! LOL, well maybe? Anyway, I hope he remembers me when he's rich from all the Gold and Silver I'm going to find for him, I'll post pictures of what we find! Won't be able to for at least three weeks though, wish me the best! Hope he don't change his mind again!

You would think if he found three - odds are there's more to be found with a metal detector !
You might want to tell him that the other coins are not doing him any good sitting under the ground forever - lets go find them !

Good Luck !
