Hey everyone! What a day! I've always read Lost Treasure Magazine, and stories of caches etc. Well, never in a million years did I think I'd discover one myself. Although not a huge cache, it was amazing! Man my heart was racing!
I hit my usual spot, however this time I was armed with a map in hand from 1891, showing the area back then. This map was actually a drawing of the area by someone. It showed the location of a couple old roads and houses. I managed to find the old road (now long gone) and from there located the site of an old house.
A guy I just met here, and myself, hit this spot last night. I came up empty handed pretty much. No coins. He on the other hand landed an 1837 penny, and an 1890 penny.
Anyhow, I went back today and hit the same area. After half an hour, I got a nice signal. I dug down 4", and wouldn't you know it. I scrapped up (literally) and 1884 large cent. I was pretty happy at that point. However, it got better. 5 feet away, and not 2 mins later, I got a very strange signal on my detector. It was jumping from penny, to dime, to nickel, to dollar. All were good tones though, so I decided to dig it. This time I was careful. I dug down 3", and used my vibraprobe. It went nuts. Brushing the dirt with my finger, a coin appeared. I flicked it out with my finger and out popped another 1884 penny. To my astonishment, where it had been, lay another coin. In total, I popped out 5 coins that were literally stacked right on top of each other!! WOW! One 1884 large cent, a copper coin larger than that which I can't read. A beautiful 1877 seated liberty dime from the U.S. A great (but worn) 1874 canadian dime. And last but not least, an 1890-H fishscale in beautiful condition! What a day.
To make this story even stranger. There is a pic I tried to zoom in on where you can see remnants of newspaper on a coin. This was on a couple of them. Then I remembered, my buddy's penny from last night was also covered in newspaper!!
To top it off, about 10 feet away I found this little cache of thimbles. All in the same hole, and plugged with newspaper!! Sorry for the long post, but I'm excited as can be. Enjoy the pics!
