Cache hunting with CZ3D

How would I tune my CZ to get ultimate depth? I am using the large coil, zero discrimination, enhanced mode. This makes my whole coil hot but I must be doing something wrong because I am not getting the depth that I should. Thanks, Steve

Makes sure your ground balancing spot on and autotune is also an option.....I would think you should get great depth but if a large box, bottle etc. just might get the overload signal....so indeed that overload may be a strongbox full of old coins along with some folding money and gold jewelry.....Good luck in your ventures and one wonders how many of us went over a large cache that we thought was a horseshoe or perhaps a buried 57 chevy....and left it go thinking it was junk...

The gurus say best depth is obtained at 5 sensitivity +/- a tad depending on the individual machine, autotune mode, ground balance a hair to the positive side, volume MAX and GOOD headphones with volume control a must! The faint sounds are the DEEP sounds. If you can't hear them you won't find them. Koss QZ-99 noise reducing headphones are a great match. Switch to disc mode to id a target then back to autotune.

The cz overloads real easy. My 3d is deeper in 0 disc vs autotune, you would think the other way around. Like Dan-Pa said, the GB is important, but if it's falsing too much over iron, just lower it a half a digit and you will notice many of the falses turn iron grunts. In my soil it will id and high tone on a measured 10" deep quarter and hit all directions...with the 10.5" coil. Also, the sens is maxed out at about 5, after that the sens just sounds louder, but it's not more sensitive.

Steve, what does your cz air test a clad dime at, in inches? It should test from 9 to 11 inches maybe even 12". That's just a start, the soil depth test, depends on your soil and its mineral content. You can also send it to Thomas Dankowski for a calibration or to Fisher Labs.

I know there are lots of variables to play with but I am not hearing any talk about swing speed. A test garden would be great to practice the effectiveness of varying speeds, but even air testing should provide some feedback as to depth response at differing swing speeds. I am constantly making myself slow down. I get eager and hurry in my quest for the next find.

Thanks guys for the help. I have to say that the CZ3D is the deepest detector that I have ever used for coinhunting, bar none. And I have been detecting since the mid 70's. I am into cache hunting Now and my two box is cumbersome to use in a lot of situations. When I swithch over from foil discrimination setting to zero discrimination. I can't tell any difference in depth. I have not toyed with changing the sensitivity setting however. I will try that out this weekend. I do always re ground balance though. Thanks again and happy holidays to all...Steve

I want to add an observation I failed to include in my previous post....

This is what makes me believe the 3D is more sensitive/deep in autotune mode.

In autotune I will get very faint repeatable rises in the threshold. More often than not if it passes the three S's and repeats at 90 degrees I start digging. 50% of the time I cannot get an ID on this target in the 0 disc mode until I have removed a couple of inches of dirt. I have found some nice old coins this way that normally would have gone undetected. They may not be the deepest target I have dug, (I have dug to china for a few things =)) but they were several inches deeper than what could be detected in disc mode. My 3D is also a bit hotter than most.
