Cache Detecting

Has anyone ever found coin caches in the stone walls of a cellar hole? I grew up about 2 hours north of where I currently live. As a young teen, I became interested in bottle digging. I went to the county library, at that time, and copied 1858 maps of each of the towns in the county. I then went around looking for the foundations of houses outside of town that didn't exist anymore. I got into metal detecting at the end of 2006 and have never ventured back out to these foundations since then. I guess I'm wondering if it was a common practice to hide stuff within a cellar wall or are there other places around a foundation I should look?

around where the chimneys are we find alot of coins in old chimneys and around they kept valuables on the ledge in the fire place to protect from fire if they aare standing reach up in them also if there are trees nearby look for clotheline scars on them then hunt there for coins

Old homes with stone, brick or dirt cellars are potential for caches. Look for loose bricks or stones. These can often be detected with sharpshooter type coils with lowered sensitivity.

An old coustom was to place gold and/ or coins under the entrance stone to bring luck.
Guy that told me found 9 gold soverns at an old town near Cloncurry in Queensland, he had spoken to a old bloke who told him it was done all the time in britan.
We can only hope! Keep lookin.

Thank you!
