Cabelas Gold Bug

New member
Hey yall....I have a ton of gift cards to spend at Cabelas and am currently lookin for a good Gold bug...from what I am reading it sounds like everyone is a little unsure as to which model they are currently selling. I would love the newest software and am not afraid to shop around for the "pro" version. SO my question is this.....Is it worth it to just go through Cabelas and gamble on a good one or buy an nice new pair of boots, and go find and actual pro.??? What would you do....I guess I could always get on and send it back if it wasn't what I liked..but I just hate to do all that running around. Help a brother out......

Go to Cabela's, pull the detector out of the box, put the battery in it and test it before you buy.

There is info / details here on how to find out what version the software is in it.

There is also info / details on what each one should have -- VCO or not etc. You should be able to test it with a coin to see if it has VCO audio, if not all you will get is a high tone no matter how far away the coin is from the coil. Oh, and BTW, the coin needs to be 4" or more away from the coil to see if the metal detector has the VCO audio.

I think I was lucky that mine is a Pro from Cabela's with the VCO audio in both Disc and All Metal Mode and version 3 software.

Not to sure but if its a pro its got the version 3 software, Its a champ good depth and senscitivity. Id try to get a pro modle
