Cabela's Gold Bug

I've been reading about the Gold Bug(s) made by Fisher for some time now, and read that the one sold by Cabela's is as good as the SE / Pro.

I now own one of these, I purchased it from Cabela's over the weekend. It says it's got version 3 software in it (turn it on while in disc mode and holding down the pin point button and after the words Gold Bug have been displayed, the number 3 is shown). The box it came in just says 'Gold Bug', as does the manual, which has a date on the back, this being 091710.

Right, now comes some info, in the manual on page 25 under the topic 'Audio Feedback' it states:

In Discrimination mode, targets which fall into the zone along the arc whose segments are shaded will be identified with a LOW tone beep, and solid segments with a HIGH tone.

In the manual for the Pro and DP, the word HIGH is changed with VCO.

OK, now that I've got that info above posted, here is my findings with the Gold Bug that I have that was purchased from Cabela's.

Clad quarter, close to the coil I get a high tone, but as I move it away the high tone starts to fade / get quieter (like I was turning the volume down).

Gold ring, same as above but low tone, the same thing happens, the tone starts to fade as the ring is moved away from the coil.

So, with this info in hand, what version of the Gold Bug do I have ?

I do not know the differences between them but that gold bug is working just like my G2. If I set my disc to say 30, only the larger iron is a high tone and all non ferrous targets will be high tone. Nails and such are low tone. A target at say 3" will be almost a beep but I think it is still a VCO but just very strong, and targets that are say 8" deep are getting softer. Modulated audio is what it is called. Now when the disc is set to 80 only high conductive targets (quarters, dimes and the like) will come through. Every thing else is silent all the way through the spectrum like pulltabs, gold rings, nickel, etc.
So far the G2 has surprised me in how quite it hunts in areas where you are cherry picking coins with a high disc setting and when hunting in nail rich areas a disc. setting of about 29-30 works well and the grunt sound of the nails does not bother me near as bad as the spikes I get from other machines.

I have a version 2 Cabellas model and it is my understanding that a 3 is the pro and g2 version of the software!! It also sounds like you have VCO so you do not have the version with saturated audio which I have. Most hunters prefer the VCO model. But If you ask me I like mine better because I still have Vco in all metal and also In pin point mode so when I get a target and check it in pinpoint i get the same info telling me weather its small foil or a deep signal!!!! I don't have to listen for whispers from a VCO to get depth out of my machine which is good for me because I'm deaf in one ear.
Good luck with your new bug they are awesome for the price range their in.
