Still hot here but decided to ask permission of an old grouchy man to hunt his property that dates back to 1814 and was originally build by a soldier when Andrew Jackson came through battling the Indians. I pull up to his drive and there were several cow skulls on sticks and several signs that said trespassers will be shot. I had my own ammunition though, a bottle of Jack for him, and proceed to his house. I pulled up he was waiting, I waved the bottle, he smiled and all was good. This guy proceeded to tell me all the history of the place and was actually very interesting. He warned me of all the rattlesnakes he has killed in the woods this year, so I concentrated on the areas that were cleared. Within ten minutes my coinstrike hit on a solid 22 ,which, if pinpoints shallow is always a memorial but this pin pointed deep so its either a wheatie or more that likely a IH. At six inches or so I pulled out a first....an 1841 half dime. I was very excited but had to focus and continue because this may be the only time I get to hut this property and I know there are older coins there. I continue to hunt and get to a large oak and proceeded to hunt around it very well. Here comes the other strike......in a flash I had a Timber Rattlesnake strike at my coil. luckily I was partially protected by the tree. In what seemed like two minute (more like two seconds) I was frozen. Then I yelled like a woman an ran off. That truly scared the crap out of me and I will not be in the woods till winter. Just thought I would share that with you.
