C$ or Explorer II and why?

What do you perfer? Pros Cons on each, just the bacics.

I own both, I use the CoinStrike as a
backup machine.
Things I like about the Explorer II:
It goes deep
It finds coins next to iron
It programs to almost any style, easily
It has conductive and ferrous sounds
It has an X-1 inline probe available
Did I mention it goes deep!
Things I like about the CoinStike:
It has very quick recovery in trash
It is lighter than an Explorer II
It has a lifetime warranty
It pinpoints very well
They are both very good machines it
just depends on what you are looking
for.

The C$ is a good $400.00 cheaper then the Explorer II I believe.
The C$ has hip mountability the Explorer doesn't.

There is probably lots of things I forgot
to mention but another is the Fisher is
American made.

Owned em' both...I decided to keep the C$ and sell the Exp II because;
-No real difference in depth
-Pinpoint is much better
-Lighter weight/better balance = longer time hunting
-And I prefer the faster sweep speed of the C$ (cover more ground in less time, & more coverage = more coins).
Yet, what do I know...Jim

I would have to agree with the C$ part, never used a Explorer so I can't compare, but I do love my C$!

I've owned them both... and still have my Explorer. In my area, the Explorer was way more consistant with stablity and results. As far as depth my Explorer was the deeper of the two in MY area. Although, depth in not the only factor when it comes to a good detector. I never had any problem pinpointing with my Explorer but I don't use the pinpoint button on the Explorer... just the nature of DD coil and pinpointing with one. DD coils can make it different from what people are used to with a typical pinpoint on other machines. The C$ is balanced better but I can and do swing my Explorer all day most of the summer days I go detecting. I leave at 8am or so and usually don't return until 7-8pm. For some it may be a factor. Covering more ground doesn't always mean more coins. If that were so I would just put my 15 inch coil on my Explorer and never take it off. I can guarantee you I can cover some major ground with the 15 inch coil... more than the C$ with the 10.5. The Explorer is more adaptable than the C$ with coil selection. With the C$ you have the choice of 8 & 10.5. The Explorer has 2 different 5 inch coils, 7.5 (Minelab 8 ), 8 inch Sun Ray, Joey (5 x 10 inch elliptical), platypus (8.5 x 11.5 elliptical), 10.5 inch (stock), 12.5 inch, 14 inch, 15 inch , and 18 inch coils. The Explorer is a very adaptable machine.

.... you can ask Jackpine Savage how much I tried to conquer the C$. Tom was usually the one trying to help me. I tried all of the advice that was given to me to get consistant results. I usually try to get consistant out a machine first then I try to tweak it. I spent alot of time fighting with the C$. I am not bashing the C$... the amount of people that I have seen do excellent with the C$ is not an accident. The C$ seems more prone to work great or poorly (lack of a better word) in my area. I am not a casual detectorist by any stretch of the imagination. I have a Fisher 3D and love it. It's one of the most stable concentric type setups I have ever used. For a concentric coil to be stable in some of the areas I hunt is saying something good about the machine. I think it all goes back to what everyone always recommends. Try to find a way to get a machine your interested out for a field test or find someone who has one. Seeing how a machine runs in your area can save some headaches... HH!

Hi Bill,
I know your results with the Coinstrike were not from a lack of trying on your part. You did not give up easily and tried everything conceivable to get it to work for you at your sites.
Glad the CZ3D is working well for you!
Hopefully in a month or so I can post some new C$ finds! Can't keep posting this one for ever!

Tom,
That is a sweet coin... I think I would be recycling it too. I found a seated dime on Monday in one the most heavily hunted parks around my area... it was a nice winter break. Hopefully, the weather becomes a little more consistant around here soon... 50's on Monday.. 20 on Tuesday... HH!

Besides, how many times have I posted that error large cent?

Bill,
Was it an Exploder find?
I hear ya on the weather, we had mid 40's over the weekend and now back in the low 20's. Still have lots of snow in most areas. Some of the higher fields started to get clear a while back but now more snow and I'm sure the frost got pretty deep when the snow cover wasn't there.

Tom,
Yes, it was an Explorer find... But, the 3D has done great in this park too. The section I was working was loaded with iron and I prefer the Explorer in those situations but the 3D was in the truck waiting. I am on vacation this week and have been doing ALOT of traveling in the truck with the laptop and GPS. I have about 15 good looking prospects but there all on the mountain top and they still have snow. It usually doesn't thaw up there as near as quick as down here in the valley... There's a couple of those sites that make the pulse quicken... God I love detecting...
