C$ or CZ3-D..How is the depth comparison

Sorry, I know these types of topics can't get a bit annoying so I'll make it quick. Just 2 questions before I purchase one of these fine machines.

1) Depth comparison (I live in Cali if that helps)I know there are many variables for this but I am trying to get an average.

2) How bad is the electrical interference problem on the C$

Thank you again. You all have been a great help.

now the electrical interference is not that big of a problem. I have hunted numerous areas and have only found a couple that I have had trouble with, one is my back yard. So what I do is drop the sensitivity down to 2 or 3 and threshold up to -40 or so and it helps.

The interference was bad. I finally got a stable meter down around 140 or 160. Been awhile, but I remember it was a 1 something. Anyway, I was still getting 5" coins even at that setting. I was susprised.

Happy CoinStriking :detecting:

A little help? I recently purchased a Fisher cz 3d And due to the winter here in Montana haven't used it yet. Finally got out yesterday for about an hour, and found a problem?, The detector didn't have a coil cover on it when I bought it so the only thing I have done was put a coil cover on. I turned the machine on and the meter needle pegged to the right or silver $. This after about 10 seconds reading iron or to the left. The only time the needle moves at all off the peg is when I pinpoint. then it seems to read the depth properly.I have never used a fisher, so maybe its something I'm doing wrong. I did everything the manual said, But It still pegs. However the tones seem to be proper.Sorry for this long winded explanation. Has anyone got an idea?
Thanks

Can you be more specific about your settings?
Did this happen inside, or outside?
Did you get a proper ground balance?
Did you try changing the batteries?

Old Tymer :
Thanks for your response. The problem I'm having is inside or out side.Whenever I turn the machine on. It is properly ground balanced, and tuned but within a few seconds after turning it on the meter needle goes to the rite side of the meter and pegs with a little beep. This is with the turn on and go settings recommended by fisher.
The only time it moves is when pinpointing, or in the auto mode. Then the meter points to iron. the cz3d can still find , and if you ignore the meter it works. When pinpointing it works showing the depth. The terrain or soil type doesn't matter it acts the same. and it will ground balance.

It sounds like there is something wrong with that machine, or the coil. Do you know anyone that has any CZ, other than the early CZ6, that you could exchange coils with to rule out the coil?

With the detector turned on, and set to the Presets, try moving the cable close to where it enters the coil to see if it causes the unit to make any signal. Also try the same thing where the cable enters the control box. You might also try lowering the sensitivity from the preset to around 2 or 3 to see if that makes any difference. If you get an audible sound when moving the cable around, that may indicate a break in one of the leads inside the cable. If it's near where the cable enters the coil, the coil needs to be replaced. If it's up near the connector, it might be repairable by isolating where that break is, and removing the connector, shortening the cable, and re-installing the connector. If you aren't comfortable doing that yourself, perhaps you know someone with the necessary skill. You might also be able to send it to one of the repair facilities to have it fixed.

When you installed the coil cover, could you have put any stress on the coil cable where it enters the coil? I know that the cover can be difficult to install. I don't use coil covers myself, but I doubt it, alone, could be the problem.

First let me say this is in my neck of the woods and I don't hunt in all metal so there may be variances..
First and foremost I spent a hunting season using both for silver coins....well here goes...
CZ user friendly to set up, but a learning period in the field to learn what its telling you..CS..learning period to set up along with field learning..
Both produced silver coins but the CZ was several inches deeper, while the CS gave you a better ID, worked better in trash and you could cover more area as the CS will accept a faster swing while the CZ must be swung slowly for depth. Indeed the CS is more affected by outside sources..
Remember I have used CZ's since 92 and my experience with a CS was one summer so take that into consideration also..
Do remember all areas do not have super deep coins and some fellows E-mail where 4-5 inch silver coins are about it in their area...might want to visit a Fisher dealer to try both on for size..

I like the idea of trying a different coil, but CZ coils just don't go in most cases...You might want to call Fisher on this one, but feel it may be a job for the Fisher tech's...Downtime on CZ's is low at best, but electronic units do malfunction at times.

Thank you for all the posts form everyone. I have done alot and I do mean ALOT fo reading of various threads, articles, field tests etc. I think I have eliminated the Coinstrike from my choices. Now it's the CZ-3D and CZ-70 eventhough I am thinking the 3D may work better for me for coinshooting. I was mostly concerned with hunting newer sites with it but if I cn use the salt mode for this then I am less concerned about it.

I have a CZ-3D. It also does the same as mentioned Needle pegs once turned on. But, it seems to run that way until I hit a target. Then it will lock on the target with the correct ID. Also, if you will read Fishers advice on this particular model. They tell you to not even look at the meter on the 3D until you have used it for three month's. The reason for this is for you to learn the audio. I have found the 3D will audio ID some coins as good targets. That other machines will read as trash. Does yours ID correctly when you hit a target such as a pull tab or a nickel or does it remain pegged?

Did any sand get in between the coil and the cover? Maybe something on the coil cover that you forgot to remove?
I had a metal detector that after I put the coil cover on it at first was fine. Then a few minutes later it started acting all weird. I had collected some very tiny black sand in between the coil and the cover.
