C$ help:rage::rage::ranting::ranting:

OK only 3rd time out with the C$ so i`m still wet behind the ears so bear with me and my stupid ?????????`s.
1`st I'm hunting old home sites from 1904 with stock coil (8inch),running the 525 setting nothing notched and disc at 99.I keep getting these great +30`s and +20`s id but when i get them out they read a -id and are an old piece of iron. What causes it to read like that but change so much when i pull it out of the dirt?
2nd i haven't been using the head phones do they really help out?
3rd some places i get 4 to 5 hits in one sweep then when i try to P/P the good one its all over the place the targets are so close together will the small coil help with this problem?or will just turning down the sense and thresh setting to like a 330 be a good idea?
but on a good note the C$ has some serious depth to it. I was running the 525 setting in one place and pulled several bridal rings and buckles with leather still in them from 18 inches deep....sure glad the digging was in sand.

Part of your answer may be in your second question. I would recommend that you get a good set of headphones. The C$ will give you very subtle hints and clues that you probably won't notice without the head phones. Some times the C$ will give a good sound on a piece of iron, especially if it is large. But you will get a rather "Sharp" tone, not that sweet sound we are all looking for. Again it's very subtle and takes some experience. Another suggestion is to check those signals from a 90 deg angle. I'm going to bet you see the ID numbers fall into the negative. And if the signal does not lock on during the pinpoint, chances are it's iron.

As for the multiple hits in one swing, my advise is to SLOW DOWN. Then SLOW DOWN. And when you are sure you can't go any slower, SLOW DOWN one more time. :lol: Hit the area from different angles and dig the questionable signals. Will you dig some junk?.....YOU BETCHA! But who cares? This is metal detecting and just a fun hobby!

Once you get more time under your belt, you will LOVE this machine. I am STILL learning more about my C$! Keep the questions and observations coming. We may learn something from you.
