C$ frustration

I find myself getting really frustrated with my C$. I actually did better with my old Bounty Hunter from WalMart. I am finding coins, but mostly surface stuff. We have several detectors including a White's DFX and a Minelab Explorer II. In frustration I used David's DFX yesterday and found the first Wheatie I have found in weeks with it. I know I should be able to get good depth with the C$, but this has not been my experience thus far. I have used "525" and find that it appears too hot for our soil conditions. The machine is unstable at anything greater than a threshold of about -40 and sensitivity greater than 4 or 5. The soil here in the hill country of Texas has appreciable mineralization and I am at a loss for how to get the performance I want out of the C$. Suggestions??

I remember someone from Texas telling me a while back that they bought a C$ and sold it because it wouldn't or couldn't handle the mineralized soil there. What is it doing?

Vicky are you Ground balancing in all metal or disc mode? Some of the guys have had the same problems that your expierencing....and they was Ground Balancing it in Disc Mode.....They started Ground Balancing in all metal and then switching to the disc mode....The C$ became more stable and had better depth.....also adjusting threshhold like your doing will help it .....might even drop sensitivity a lil more. The only other thing is make sure you ground balance on metal free area.

and finally realized that I should be ground balancing in all metal mode then switch over to descriminate mode once ground balanced.

The machine does a lot of falsing and just generally does not get the depth that I know it should. Thanks to Big Red and mtdoramike for the info on ground balancing in the all metal rather than in the disc mode. I will try making that adjustment next time I am out, probably tomorrow after work.
