That is all I am able to get out of my T-2. Now on my third day. I can't get a good id on anything and it seem's on the outer edge of stability all the time. My GC numbers are almost always between 61 and 70, I don't know where to set the sensitivity. I have turned it down to 50 and that doesn't seem to help. I can run the disc way up and it helps but then it is way above nickles and I don't want to run there. Maybe it is just making me pay my dues... i'll keep at it but I am ready to start having some fun with it rather than frustration. Is the factory preset of 60 on the sens just too high? I use a SovGT a lot and usually have to run it in "auto sens" to kep some kind of stability around here.

Any ideas? I need a little help.
I'll check back in a little while.

Also, does anyone know where a minnie ball hits in the TID on this thing? Most are 173 on my GT with a quarter or dime hitting at 180.. I meant to check before I left the house today but I forgot to..

Thanks,

Julien

Julien,

I'm in Germany, lots of clay soils. I went out today and GB'd in the 60 to 70 range too. Sometimes it's down in the 50's. What I've noticed in those cases is to be absolutely certain I'm GB'ing the detector in a good spot. Look at Mike Hillis' post on getting the machine stable. The post is stickied.

I've noticed that upping the discrimination helps. I guess it's just picks up too much of what's in the soil. Usually I run my discrimination at 10, but when there is too much going on I up it to 20, maybe 40 (but not generally). I like running it low and seeing/hearing all.

I can barely, I mean barely GB in my yard cause there is so much fill dirt (with metal pieces of all kinds). Make sure you find a good spot. You might want to play with the manual GB and then over adjust it from there. I don't know in which direction (+ -) but playing around with a + or - GB has helped others (I've read this on other boards, not related to the T2, but worth a try).

What has helped me is:

1. Positively GB'ing as best I can. (try manual too)
2. Raising the discrimination some
3. Lowering the sensitivity (around here to 40, usually I run 60 on up, if there is not too much in the earth).
4. Stabilizing the machine according to Mike's post (and playing with Frequencies on occasion). I RARELY need to go here.

Let us know what you find out as it might help me at times,
Earthmansurfer

ps - I'm pretty new to detecting so if anything I said sounded odd... well, it probably is

When I got my first T2 it worked fine at first. But, on the 2nd hunt it suddenly went crazy with beeps and flashing ID. It did this regardless of settings and regardless of location.

I sent it back and the dealer sent me out a new one that worked fine.

Julien,

Like others have said try manually ground balancing or adjusting it after you do a fast grab. My ground balance numbers range from 57 to as high as 82. I am not sure which way the scale goes... higher or lower means worse soil??? Don't forget about your FE3O4 reading. The place I was hunting today ground balanced between 76-82 and had a FE3O4 reading of .3 in most places. Most of the places I hunt the numbers aren't that stable. But, on most numeric ID machines I've owned that has been the case. I usually go by tone on those machines. That is why I like the T2 alot with it's adjustable tone modes. For me, upping the disc seems to affect my depth. I rarely run the disc up. I've also been running the sensitivity low. I usually start at 60 and try to work it up to see if it is stable. If not I end up back it back down. With the T2 being very sensitive to smaller objects in the wrong area the T2 can be a ear full.

Air test it to make sure it is working right. Use the fastgrab to balance. That will give you a slightly positive gb. Then listen to the ground and TURN IT DOWN when the ground tells you to.

You want to really learn this machine, you will have to start here.

My T-2 works graaaaaet. But got to hunt with a buddy. To find a ring
that she said she lost by her swiming pool. power line,s over head.
Had to turn sin. down to 25 and Dis, to 25. A ring replacement she
had read in the tin foil range and a ID of 57. We hunted for two hr
but no luck. So 4 weeks later I went back. Got the OK to hunt by my
self. Hunted with the same settings as befor. I about 30 min I had
found about 20 pic of tin foil, pulltabs, bot cap,s cut up cans and a nail or two and a very nice ring. But not the ring I was looking for.
Had the shape of a football with on big fack D in the mid and 10 little D,s around it. Man what cluster screw that was. But get to go
back. Maybe next time. Don

I hunt in Disc mode, sens either 50 or 60; disc running either 25, 40, or 50; # of tones either 2+ or 3. The GC will not set most of the time. Really, about 90% of the time when I try to GC the menu tell's me "can't GC... I move until I am tired of looking for a spot because it won't GC. That's not just on one site either. All around town I tried places today and no dice on the auto GC "can't GC"... then I try to manually GC and I can not find a place in the whole range where the tones change so I usually just pick 70 for GC because sometimes when it does auto set, it is around 70.

I am getting hits but in the meantime it sound's like morse code most of the time. Maybe it's the ground here.

Also the auto GC will go to "can't GC" before I even lower it to the ground sometimes. I also tried leaving my cell phone and pinpointer aside, that wasn't the problem.

It got quiet at one site when I got to the end of a building, Along the side it was useless, got to the end and it got quiet..
My main site however, is a large lot with a house, so it's not a factor there.

I'll keep trying. I'm taking it to FL, to the beach on Wed.

Thanks,

Julien

I'll keep trying. Maybe I have the sens too high. I tried slowing down my swing a little and I think that helped a little. I am beginning to be able to tell chatter from a hit by swinging twice over a spot.

Thanks,

J

I don't pay much attention to it because I guess it is what it is but I noticed today it was on 1.0 Fastgrab will not work on most of the sites I hunt, wont work at all. I try multiple spots but no fastgrab, then I try manual and frankly I cannot find a place in the range where the audio changes.
I did find some stuff but I was not confident in it like when you hit a good signal and know it's worth digging. I'll get there. I wish there was someone local to check my machine out and make sure it's ok. but I really think it's the ground here. There is a LOT of iron here. I can drag a magnet three ft in my front yard and have rocks all over it.

Anyway...

Thanks.

J

The fastgrab will not work most sites here, not even trying multiple places. It even goes to "can't GC" before it get's to the ground sometimes...

The ground is really hot here but the Tejon and the SoverignGT both handle it.

I am taking it to FL on Wednesday so maybe I will be able to tell if it's the ground or the machine. I think it's the ground here though.

Thanks,

J

If you get the "Can't GC" message before you even lower it to the ground makes me think you've got a problem. I think it's time you gave First Texas a call and asked to speak to John or Dave and explain to them what is happening. If there is something wrong with the unit, there is no point in continued fustration.

Give them a call and find out for sure.

When my coil went bad I couldn't get my machine to GB and if it did the numbers were way off from the previous experience at the site. I ended up stopping at another site and also tried in my backyard to make sure it was the machine. I'd try a few different places to see if you can get it to GB properly. I don't know if you read in the manual... to get a good FE reading you need to pump the coil like you're GBing to get a good reading. There's no doubt that the T2 can pick up some very, very small targets. In some places that can be a big problem. The highest my GB has been has been 82 with a FE of .3. In that area very few machines get any depth. There's no doubt you'll get the hang of the T2. I think for about the first 35 hours I was ready to sell it. Once I put some time in on the machine it started to click. I am still picking up more on my T2 because I use other machines. I've went into areas I've pounded and the T2 is slmost always able to find a couple of coins which is saying something at some of my sites... :)

-Bill

I tried several different places around the city while I was out today and it will not GC anywhere. Also I tried this afternoon finding targets with my Soverign GT, then checking them with both the Tejon and the T-2. Some things the T-2 would not hit and the on one's it did hit the TID was jumping all over the place. I can never get a solid number on anything. The last thisg I tried was tossing a '66 quarter and a dug nickle on the ground and passing the T-2 over them. The quarter still would not lock in on a number but jumped around in the 70s and the nickle jumped around in the 40s...

I think something is wrong with it.

Julien,

It does sound like you have something wrong. Mine acted alot like that. It wouldn't GB at all. The coil ended up being bad which is what I thought it was. I sent it back. They fixed it and calibrated the coil to the machine. I had my T2 out yesterday and it's running great now. One good thing is that First Texas's customer service is first rate. They were very helpful and the turn around time was very fast.

-Bill

I called 1st Texas and actually you were right on the money in a way about the coil but it was the connection of the cable from the coil to the control box. I had it in hand and on out in the yard when I called, he told me right away to wiggle the cable connection at the box and that immediately fixed the problem however two things. First, it was not loose, I had it on there tight, I have it tighter, using pliers now. Second, he knew a little too fast what the problem was... that tell's me that they must be having problems with this.

Anyway... i'm happy now.

Thanks!!

Julien
