Buying used excal

What does one look for in a used Excalibur . I hear when work proper they are Great . But the minelabs have more melt downs than other brands and their service is slow . How would I check it out and what would I look for. Thanks for any input.

Check the coil cable and coil for nicks or cracking.
Shake the detector in your hand to see if it goes crazy like something is loose.
Turn all the knobs while you have it turned on and listen for odd things.
Note on the excal the knobs turn hard because of the seals.
Look inside for any signs of water.
If you live near a beach ask if you can try it out in the water and then check for leaks.

Doc,great advice from KX.I've bought a few water detectors and had some bad deals, sellers sometimes forget to tell the buyer about leak issues.IMHO at best its a hit or miss my advice find a good dealer to buy from.Good Luck Ron
