Buying new detector

Hi I am trying to decide on a new detector for myself for Christmas. It's between a Whites or a Garretts, either a XLT or a GTI 1500 any suggestions? I would especially like to hear from John In Edmonton ,,,thanks George in Colorado

John will be along shortly. But until then, I'd suggest the 1500. It is easier to use, as the XLT has a lot of stuff going on and can be a bother to get used to.
Either way, make it a goal to get a sniper coil for your choice. Im sure John would second that suggestion.

Hi Willy I do alot of ghost towns, some of these have been bull dozed and there is a fair amount of trash also the good things can be on the surface or twelve inches down. I do ski slopes in the summer and I already have a EX II and it does a good job but the weight is a problem when on all day hunts while climbing hills at 10,000 feet so I need a little lighter detector with good not great depth.I also do penny popping when I don't have time to go far from home. Ah, now the truth emerges. Id go for a 1350 or 250, in that case.
Oooops, sorry for butting in!:wiggle:

They are both great detectors, no doubt about that. The GTI 1500 will give you one more option that the White's doesn't have, and that is the ability to size an object. It is a fantastic machine for coin hunting. I think many will agree to that. It also has numerous coils available to get an edge under certain conditions. Now if you look at the price comparisons between the whites XLT and the GTI 2500, you are very close. The GTI 2500 Pro Package includes a second coil, a set of headphones and a nice carrying case. The 2500 has that true all metal mode which gives great depth, and can also be manually ground balanced when so desired. That, combined with that 12 1/2 inch coil will give you tremendous depth for relic and coin hunting.

Call the dealers sponsoring this forum and see what kind of prices you can get.

Good luck with whatever machine you choose. Remember.....metal detecting is a hobby and hobbies are meant to be enjoyed. :)

The 1500 would be the way to go. It's about the best coinshooter out there. But if you want something light you might take a look at the 250. That little bugger will fool you. A lot of us have all the big dollar machines but walk out the door mostly with the 250. Just a thought.
