Buying Minelab

New member
I've been a DFX user for 3 years. Found some nice stuff, half dime, reale, 7 seated dimes, etc. However, the guys who search in the same park as me in Brooklyn New York all use the Minelab, the original Explorer. They find some pretty kick ass stuff. I find the DFX is great on copper, I nail tons of Indian Heads, but not as much silver as I know is there. My question is should I go with a new Explorer 2, the SE, or the original used. Also, what is the learning curve with the Explorer? I have the DFX down real good, but it took me about 2 years of hard detecting to get it right. Great detector, but I want a Minelab as well. Desmond in Brooklyn

Hi, I'm in northern, NJ and have 2 XSs and an SE if you want to try them out, I'm only about 45 minutes outside of NYC.

Hello Desmond.....either machine is excellent. However the new SE has some nice improvements over the EXP II. One of which is the VCO pinpointing, which by itself will help shorten your learning curve as pinpointing just got a lot easier with the Explorers.

The faster processor in the SE will also help separate the trash and treasure, and allow you to make finds right next to the bad stuff.

Both machines are truly "turn on and go" units, but the fancy stuff will take you a little while to get down. Don't let it scare you though.....once you have it, you will be oh so glad you own an Explorer.

Love to. Give me an e-mail at currandesmond@hotmail.com. Either you could come to Prospect Park in Brooklyn, or I'd love to come up there to Hunt. I have a car. Desmond
