Buying A New X-Terra 705 this weekend

Well I have finally decided on buying the Minelab X-Terra 705 after thinking about the MXT and the DFX. I feel like the gold pack will suit me well in finding gold jewelry on the beach and coins and other things on parks. Can you guys just give me some more information about this detector and what you have learned because I have never used a Minelab before. The detector I have right now is a Bounty Hunter 505, how much of an upgrade will this be? Anybody with any input would be greatly appreciated because my dad and I are completely new to the X-Terra line.

the very first thing I would do is go and read the faq's at the top of this page. Then ask questions on what you are not sure about. Your getting one of the very best mid price metal detectors on the market today.

good choise
look at vedeo on 705 on you tube

I updated the chart when the new models came out. It is posted in our FAQFAQ section above. Here's a link.....

No comparison> I went from the bounty hunter sharpshooter to an x-terra . I hated the x-terra for about a week. It was so sensitive it drove me crazy. But once I learned it my bounty could not touch the depth or coin finds that my x-terras find.

So i have you to thank for my sanity :yikes:

Also, remember DO NOT drop the batteries in vertically. Have the unit standing upright and slide them in easily so the springs in the battery holder don't eventually collapse. I'm not sure if the newer units have the same problem as my -70 does, (the springs tended to be on the weak side) but if the springs collapse it's a pain to get in and get them sprung back out without breaking them. Just a word of caution, and congrats on the new detector! You are going to love it. It's a great detector.

So how can I make the 5x10 DD 18.75 KHZ waterproof, is there any other ways? If not, I will just buy a regular concentric coil.

I asked the same question and was sent the answer by pm so i forwarded to you. Also the 6" 18.75 gold coin is waterproof

There is no way to make the 5x10 "waterproof" (that I'm aware of that is). You can make it more "resistant" by sealing where the cord goes into the coil and around the edge of the coil (in the gap) with silicone sealant, but it WILL NOT make it waterproof. As Digmeahole says, the 6" 18.75 IS waterproof though, and is a great coil. Takes a few more swipes to cover the area, but is a great coil.

I have an offer to buy a Minelab X-Terra 70 stock concentric coil that is waterproof, will this coil also work with my 705? I'm pretty sure it will but I'm just checking.

See attached photos of 10.5 DD 7.5khz & 6' DD 18.78Khz. The 10.5 is water resistant only because of the stem... the stem on the 6' coil is total sealed and the other is not. It can be sealed and made water proof with a marine salt water proof sealer sold at an boat yard. just make sure you cover entire stem and also make sure the product you get is flexible when cured.. The rest of the coils such as the seams are identical with same sealant. I have no freaking idea why Minelab would skimp out on a stem!!! God, its not like the coils are cheap!!! Put the waterproof stem on and make them all water proof!
