Buying a new machine, But which one???

wrong way ron

New member
Have the MXT right now looking to buy the DFX. What do you guys think??? I hunt for coins and jewerly more that anything else. Nothing wrong with MXT just want a new machine:crazy:

What's that old saying......"If it's not broke, don't fix it". How about another coil instead? The MXT is one of the best coin shooters and very reliable. IMHO.

If you want a new machine, go all the way and get the V-3.

HH, Nancy

From what I have been reading the V-3 is the hottest detector out there. You might want to consider it........

Unless you have special needs the DFX provides for, going from the MXT to a DFX is pretty much a lateral move with a lot more headaches IMHO. In some cases, like gold jewelry and nuggets, the MXT is a better machine.

Vision's ... I've owned 2
DFX's ... I've owned 4
XLT's ... I've had 20
6000 Pro XL's and Xl Pro's ... Have had at least 7 or 8
MXT's .. 4 standard and now an MXT-300
M6's ... 2.

I will not own another DFX. For me, the XLT was a far better performer and I might add one back in. Certainly not needed, just a fun detector.

The Vision has been one model that I like, but have reservations about, and I've loaned mine out more than any other detector I have owned in the past twenty years.

The M6 is perhaps one of the most 'fun' of these models to use because it's simple, has very good MXT-like performance (duh!) and I like the 7-tone audio at the flip of the trigger toggle. I am tempted to add an M6 back into my arsenal as well as an XLT, in that order.

Currently, having use all of the above (the DFX very little) during the past two months when working with and evaluating the Vision and an assortment of coil options, I rely most on my XL Pro w/stock 950 and 6

Thanks guys for all of your support. Monte your right I am very happy with the MXT so I went out and bought another one. Old MXT will go to Mom and brother mom always wanted one. I have always like the easy uses of the MXT so I pick up the MXT 300 Is the coil any good I also have the 950, 5.3 eclipse and the 10" 2D coil which coil would you use on the new machine I'm leaning toward the 10" 2D coil.

I wouldn't consider the DFX a good upgrade from the MXT, in my 5 years of experience with the MXT it's walked circles around the DFX, that's just my opinion, have you tried the D2 coil? It was an awesome upgrade for my MXT. The V3 looks like it might be a good machine too but its pricey and I'm holding off on it cause I'm making deep finds in the parks since I bought my D2 coil, my brother has a Minelab SE and he's really hating the competition I've been giving him especially earlier this year when I was slyly following his footsteps and and found a deep barber quarter. The D2 pinpoints great, I.D.'s target great and is a really light coil that I can hunt all day with no fatigue whatsoever. I've also got the Super 12 coil which I've made many deep finds with also but in my opinion the D2 has it beat for a much easier to use coil. The Super 12 might go deeper but it won't I.D. the targets as good as the D2.

Giant you will see that many of are using the 10" also. Rob

have spare rods for quick-changing to my 12", 10" D2, or 10X12 SEF as desired. Most hunting I do is in trashier or brushier locations and the 6
