buying a metal detector need advice

I am going to buy a metal detector and narrowed it down to either the matrix 6 or the Mxt. I have some experience in metal detecting with my old coin master. The ground where I live is very hard and rocky so i need something with a good discriminator.I will use it mainly for coin hunting around tot lots. What are the pros and cons of the 2 detectors.

Sorry, but I don't know anything about the M-6, but I do the MXT would recommend the MXT 100%.:thumbup::thumbup: HH, Nancy

That's what worries about the m6 for some reason not selling like the mxt for some reason and whites could discontinue that model. there are also old lots where houses used to stand I will be hunting there also.

I was looking at the M6 as an upgrade from my Prizm IV. Since my local dealers had none in stock I called around and found one about an hour away on the Jersey shore. After swinging th M6 and the MXT I went with the MXT. It just felt right. I'm still learning this machine and hobby( I started MDing in 2007) but I know a VDI of 18 is a nickel for sure and after digging a few pulltabs at any site I will play with the settings to see if I can get around them.

I have been using the MXT for 8 months and have found it to be the best in its price range and better than some that cost more. It truly is 3 separate machines in one and will hunt the old coins in there depths depending on what coil you use. My friend that I hunt with uses the M6 and does extremely well with coins and artifacts. I prefer mine because it has a threshold setting that really makes it a good deep detector. With my large coil I have found coins better than 12 inches deep. Artifacts can be found even deeper with my 12X15 coil. Our soil here in Indiana where we live is fairly moderate in mineral density and when damp allows our MXT and M6 to find the coins deep.

I don't understand why one would want the M6 its basically the same detector as the MXT, and for about $100.00 more you get twice the detector with the MXT.

You haven"t used the M6 or you would know the answer..Get a M6 and spend the rest on coils..Complete simplicity and the same depth of the MXT and the DFX...If the MXT had the seven tones I'd buy one..

I have found the MXT with 2 tones in relic mode does not slow me down when hunting coins with my partner and his 7 tones. with prospecting mode and the Threshhold setting it is more versatile than the M6. But, To each his own.

I have an MXT and can give it very high marks. Anything the M6 can do the MXT can do and more. For the difference in the price, why not have 3 detectors in one? My two bits.

The MXT with the prospecting mode gives you an extra advantage when detecting for gold and silver jewelry on beaches and in park areas also. And in the relic mode the M6 will not detect items as deep as the MXT even with the same coils on each machine. We have tested them side by side. Please don't take my word for it, get both machines and give it a try yourself............:twodetecting:
