Does anyone know what this very small could have went to? I found this next to some civil war bullets so I'm thinking it might be an old military/civil war button. The front of the button is in bad shape and I can't read what is on the front of the button unfortunately. Any help would be great.

It's a common flat button, probably a cuff button. I can't make out much of anything on the front so beyond being right for the period and earlier I can't add much.
