I hope this photo has uploaded and that you can see .... it is a smaller metal button with four items separated by crossed "sticks". In the top section, it appears to be a crown with a cross over the top of it ... moving clockwise, the next section appears to be a thistle, the bottom section may be a canoe with two balls on it and the last section is a person sitting while holding their knees within the confines of their crossed arms. The outer band of the button has symbols or letters around it but I cannot make them out. The back of the button is pretty rusty but it has the remnants of a center stem for attachment to a garment.

I found this button in Midland, Michigan ... in the spring of 2008 ... at a city park. Didn't find any other similar items.

I think it looks older especially if you found it in a city park in michigain. There were alot of British forts in that area during the post revolutionary war era.. you might want to check on it.. it has a very old looking patina.. My guess is British or Scottish in origin possibly off of a uniform. Carefully check the back for any markings and write them down then do a web search.

Some made up button theme that looks military?

That is not a bag-piper?

The crossed golf clubs looks very much like something you would find on a mans blazer?

First item Googled:

PS: the only place 2 balls would lie side by side is on a green. I have never seen it anywhere else.

Yes, you are correct ... that is it ... hmmmmm, a fashion button. Sure wish that the words/letters/symbols on the outer edge of the button was readable. Thanks for the ebay item. That photo was better than mine. Sheldon

...of the Royal Blackheath Golf Club. This is the oldest golf club in Britain, instituted in 1608.

The crown on your button is of Queen Victoria, dating it some time during her reign (1837 to 1900)

A pic of your button on this page, #117
