Found this button at lunch today. Anyone know its origin? (Union or Confederate or even if its from the civil war era).
 
With two piece buttons coming in around the 1832-1835 range, you're looking at most likely a button from the 1820s. Yours, fortunately, has a lot of gilt left. Having dug a few here and seen some dug on the South Carolina coast, most lose their gilting.
