Button Id's

VA DIGGER

New member
Found these buttons while out on lunch today. Back mark on button with the pineapple? reads BENEDICT AND BURNHAM. The blue ridge button has no back left and the eagle button is a convex one piece. Any ideas on any of these would be great. The coin is a 1907 liberty nickle.

VADIGGER, The Blue Ridge button is off of a pair of bib overalls. I have also found Blue Bell, Big Mac as well as Blue Ridge. The Benedict button company became Benedict and Burnham in 1834 and used that backmark until 1843 when they became the Benedict and Burnham Mfg Co. I think this button and the one piece eagle are both pre Civil War. Hope this helps. FRANK

The "pineapple" button is interesting. It's actually not a pineapple but rather a thistle, the national symbol of Scotland. Very popular device used to demonstrate pride in the homeland.

Your backmark is based in Waterbury, Ct. But the button face is probably meant to attract Scottish lads just arrived.

Hope this helps

Richard

Thanks to all. These items were found at my most recently search site in Glen Allen, Va. With any luck I will be asking a lot more questions.
