I can't find this in any of my U.S. button books. The crown makes me think British. The "R" in script is so fancy I'm not sure if there's another letter in there. Diameter is 26 mm , 1 pc, convex, backmark: HOWELL GILPIN & CO/ DUBLIN.
Anyone recognize it?
 
Great button! Sure looks British.....maybe even War of 1812 era if it's a 1 piece? Can we see a shot of the back?
 
It is one piece. The back is in very good condition, however the photo is poor. Any online research links for British military buttons?
 
I bet it's in his British Military button book....
Still looks 1812 era to me. Nice find.
